How to make a complaint against an IAC Member
The purpose of this process is to:
1. Protect the public,
2. Maintain confidence in the profession,
3. Uphold standards of ethical conduct in the profession,
4. Ensure that both parties rights are protected and
5. The best action is taken in the interest of the public.
To lodge a complaint against a member of the IAC, the following steps and procedures need to be followed:
First Step
Is to verify that person or entity you wish to lodge the complaint against is indeed a member of The Institute of Accounting and Commerce.

Please note that the IAC can only act against registered members of our institution and has no authority to act against other members of other professional bodies, or practices and firms that has multiple members from different professional bodies, unless the individual directly responsible for the misconduct is a member of the IAC
If the member is found not to be a member of IAC and claims to be, please contact the CEO directly.
Second Step
When the above is confirmed, you need to:
1. Please submit a Written Sworn Affidavit in your own words setting out your complaint in detail and attach all supporting documents. Please note we require a SWORN AFFIDAVIT signed in the presence of the South African Police Officer in order to proceed with your complaint.
2. Also upload a certified copy of your Identity document.
3. Complete the online form in full and submit the required documents. Any uncompleted forms or documents will not be acted upon.
4. We need permission from the complainant that the affidavit is to be sent to the person the complaint is lodged against, in order to obtain a response to the affidavit.
5. You need to retain the original affidavit us the investigating officer will require this from you.
Third step
Once we are in receipt of the completed form and your affidavit, the IAC will appoint an investigating officer to hear the matter. Should the matter warrant further investigation, both parties may be requested to provide the necessary evidence, to enable our Investigation Officer to make a recommendation to the IAC President and the CEO.
The investigating officer will then contact you regarding the matter and will advise you accordingly.
You will be required at all times to give your full cooperation during the investigation. Please note that the IAC can recover any legal cost and other expenses, should you refuse to cooperate or neglect to provide evidence.
Fourth Step
Should the IAC President and CEO decide that our member has acted in contravention to the IAC Constitution, Code of Conduct and/or By-laws, the member will either be fined, reprimanded or in more serious cases suspended or deregistered (membership terminated). You will be informed of the outcome.
